Well... the night Hyde broke his arm... Roxas-kun talked about where he came from. And not just the world...
He said something like, in his world... hearts have a power on their own. But if people lose theirs, or the heart becomes too dark, the heart and the body can turn into two separate... [... No, not "creatures," or "monsters." Roxas is NOT either of those things, EVER.] beings. He said that... he's the latter, a body that's still living without a heart. He calls it a Nobody, but I HATE that word...
I remember him mention something about Nobodies...but not that he was one. [Frown deepens. He can see why Kotori is upset about that—he's not that comfortable with the idea either and would just clonk him over the head about useless things, but the kid's not here.
Which is the reason he's here.] So what's that gotta do with not being able to find Roxas?
He said that... back home... he found the person he originally came from, Sora. He chose to become part of him again. So that means... [She starts to weep, salt water slowly dripping into salt water.] That means he's not alive anymore... not in his world...
Shizuo-san... Sora's HERE now. A-and I can't get a hold of Roxas-kun at all... I... I don't know if Roxas-kun ran into Sora-kun- Sora-kun didn't seem to know he was here at all. Or... or if the Storyteller switched them? [Her voice stays quiet, even as it growns more frantic and curls in more and more on herself, unable to meet Shizuo's gaze.] He... Roxas-kun kept saying that Sora was better than him that night, and-- and I promised him here that we'd try to get a happy ending for this story, he was SO nervous, Shizuo-san, but-- ... But what if the Storyteller heard us...?
[Here, she crumples into sobbing. One of her best friends is GONE... and it could be HER fault. Shizuo could BLAME her for it.]
Well, there's a lot for him to handle right now and he just floats there in the water wide-eyed for several long moments as he stares at her. Roxas becomes a part of someone? Sora? Not alive? And now he's not here but Sora is? The fuck? It's seriously hard for him to comprehend this.
But after hearing one particularly loud sob, he breaks from his stupor and reaches out to her, covering the short distance easily as a hand goes to the top of her hand and pulls her against his chest. Not quite a hug, but close.]
Stupid. Don't blame yourself. [He could tell from her expression and her words that's exactly what she was starting to do. But despite his words, his voice is actually quiet and gentle.] The Storyteller is weird, but I don't think they'd do something like that.
[...He says that, but he can't really offer much more since he does not know what kind of answer to give her. Even just saying that people come and go from here isn't unusual wouldn't really help.]
[For a second she's startled by the movement, sudden and very personal, stunned against him for a few seconds.
... But then she relaxes- no, collapses against him, quietly weeping into his chest. The roughly gentle command soothes that wound so quickly, but there's still so much grief and FEAR. She's never known anyone to come back from being sent away. (Hasn't spoken with Bridge and Della yet.) What if he never comes back? That means he's technically dead again, perhaps permanently now, trapped in Sora's body without any other way to exist on his own.
And... now she'll never see him again. She'll never show him other flavors of ice cream, or learn more about his world outside of hearts and Heartless and the SICKENINGLY named Nobodies. He's gone for good this time...]
[It's moments like these that Shizuo wished he knew how to better comfort people. But because he's never really had much experience, all he can do is just...pet her head a little as he pushes aside the awkwardness he feels. Even if he can't say anything, he can at least give her some quiet support, to let her have a place to let out her emotions.
So he'll just do that, patiently waiting until she's through.]
[A soft, slow nod... She wants to believe herself, almost can with how magical these worlds are... but she’s from a world where the dead don’t come back, and she’s had so, so many promises broken before she got here.
But right now... there’s comfort that blunt, practical Shizuo believes, and that’s enough hope for the both of them.]
[He doesn't say it, but he wonders if it doesn't hit as hard for him since he's an adult... Not that hearing about the circumstances are something to shrug about it—he can understand why Kotori is upset about it. To not be alive anymore because he chooses to become a part of someone else... Honestly, it's a lot for him to process and he'll need some time to think it over.]

[Okay calm down, how to put this...]
Did Roxas-kun... ever tell you about what his home is like...?
no subject
Not really...why?

I will be... Will you?

Yeah, I'll be fine.

I'll be sure to lecture him when he gets back.
no subject
You would, wouldn’t you.
[The corners of her lips turn up, faint spark of hope starting to flicker in her eyes.]
Just don’t be too hard on him...
no subject
I'll try not to.
